Jetzt ist der Metal sowieso ein Genre mit Hang zu trashigen Covern. Aber von einer seiner Top-Bands hätte man (auch mit Blick auf die ikonischen Motive der 2 Vorgänger) etwas Besseres erwarten können.

Irgendwie fand ich das immer gut, habe das mal mit 12 in einem Plattenladen erspäht und war fasziniert. Leider taugt mir die Platte nix, wie alles ohne Ozzy.

@Mychael: das Kreatorcover mit dem zentrierten roten Mantel geht auch noch durch. Zumindest im Vergleich zu den beiden anderen.

Poison Idea find ich klasse, auch wenn es das Cover nicht schöner macht.
Hier mag ich die Platte auch, aber das Cover finde ich scheußlich:

...und so sehr ich David Eugene Edwards mag, bei manchen seiner Wovenhand- Covers hab ich einfach nur Assoziationen wie "schlechtgelüftete Zimmer im Altersheim", "Couchdecke meiner Oma" oder "muffige Bettwäsche in einem Plastiksack im Keller". Die zwei schlimmsten:

Mir ging es genauso. Diese unterkühlte Farbgebung lenkt ziemlich ab, ich fand es auch erst auf den zweiten oder dritten Blick häßlich. Dann aber richtig.

Einen hab ich noch zum heutigen Abschluß. Eine der schlechtesten Isaac- Hayes- Platten hat zumindest ein genauso beschissenes Cover. Hab sogar die Ausgabe mit Coverposter, was es nun wirklich nicht gebraucht hätte:

Also unbedingt hässlich finde ich das "Groove-A-Thon"-Cover nicht. Diese Art von Cover-Design ist einfach nicht mehr "modern". Aber im Vergleich zu anderen Airbrush/Chrom-Effekt-Hüllen aus den Mitte/Endsiebzigern ist das schon recht gut: die Titelzeile in Chrom-Optik ist raffiniert gestaltet (und würde jedem Harley-Davidson-Tank gut stehen), die dezente Autorenzeile darüber ist prominent, aber dezent und macht die Grafik nicht kaputt. Gut: "Die beste Bild-Umrahmung ist keine Bild-Umrahmung" (Bob Dylan), aber diese Chrom-Blitze bringen sogar etwas Bewegung in die Gestaltung (wenn auch keinen "Groove"…). Und Isaac als Maharadscha ist sowieso Klasse.
Das Album kauf ich mir wegen des Covers.

Interessant, wie man zu verschiedenen Blickwinkeln gelangt. ich denke nicht über das gestalterische Konzept nach, mir ist der schiere Anblick einfach unangenehm.
