Esben and the Witch



Anlässlich des bevorstehenden neuen Albums wird es mal Zeit für einen Bandthread. Nach dem grandiosen "The Marching Song" glitt der Output der Band für meinen Geschmack allzu oft ins ziellos-sphärische ab, erst das 2016er Album "Older terrors" mit neuem Label und radikal reduziertem Sound (weg von jeglicher Elektronik) ließ dann wieder aufhorchen, weil es die Band zur Konzentration aufs Songwriting zwang, was bei nur vier jeweils über zehnminütigen Songs auch hätte schiefgehen können. Das im November anstehende Album "Nowhere" scheint musikalisch dort anzuknüpfen, zumindest wenn es nach dem ersten daraus zu hörenden Song "The Unspoiled" geht. Sonderlich "indie" klingt die Band somit nicht mehr, aber wir sind ja tolerant.

Esben and the Witch are a British three piece rock band formed in Brighton in 2008 consisting of Rachel Davies (vocals, bass), Thomas Fisher (guitar), and Daniel Copeman (drums, electronics - formerly guitar). Their name comes from the Danish fairytale, "Esben and the Witch".
The band's music has been described as "electronic dubstep soundscapes" and "Radiohead without the mithering, goth stripped of unnecessary melodrama", with Davies' vocals compared to Siouxsie Sioux and PJ Harvey. The Quietus called it "perfect gothic pop". The band themselves once described their music as "nightmare pop" around the release of the '33' but have attempted to avoid genre classification since.

Ich bin dabei!
Freu mich mir das neue Album anzuhören und werde auch versuchen die live irgendwo zu erwischen.

Die Band ist bei mir bisher auf freundliches Interesse gestoßen, ohne sich wirklich durchsetzen zu können. Von daher habe ich auch keinen Tonträger von ihnen. Der neue Song klingt aber wirklich stark.
